ABOUT THE MIX:
You know how there’s that one DJ who you’d throw a party just to have them headline it? Well, this is THAT moment for us here at Daibutsu Music. Khaleel “The Funkboy” Mason is someone who once you hear, you’re going to be keeping your ears out for when he’s playing out, or online! How Khaleel and I met is the stuff of legend. The funny thing is, we’re both from the Philadelphia area, and had heard of each other, but had never met. It wasn’t until a mutual friend who had gotten booked to play in Ibiza (2017) that we met. We got (and still get) along famously, and played many amazing sets at Bar Amsterdam, Mumak, and The Aperture Terrace for a true Ibiza Sunset Set. On the bus back to the airport, we agreed that we were going to link up, and do what we could to get gigs, throw parties, and ultimately, put out music. That started in October, and we’ve been best buds ever since. I help him with his show Underground Expressions when I am able. He’s had me on the show as well, and it’s always a blast. By the end we’re both talking about some track the other one played that they have to have before we leave! Good times and love all around.
But what makes this special is that, Khaleel is on my decks instead of me being on at his. As per usual, the mixes are recorded in one take, no edits. What you see (on the YouTube video), and hear (on the podcast) was done live. And you’ll never forget Khaleel. This mix will make sure of that. I’ve been in the club, and on the floor when he’s at the helm, and if you’re still sitting as the first track is running, then you’ll be the only one sitting. His track selection is natural, and on the fly, yet precise. You know when you want the next track to come in, and he’s already 3 or 4 songs ahead of that. A true master.
